Monument Valley

Last weekend I’ve been on a road trip with Ambra and Cesare… 1628 mile! The Monument Valley was the farest place we visited. On Saturday evening we reached it, just one hour before the closing time. We took few pictures (the one above was taken the morning after) and then while talking about the great view we realized that the parking got empty. Completely empty and the gates were locked!

We were trapped in the visitor center! We start making noise with the car horn but nothing, there was nobody! After about 30 (very long) minutes a car arrived, it was a Navajo Indian with his pickup and we asked him if he has the key to open the gate. He asked us why we stayed after the closing time? But we tried to explain that they closed before the time! He said that the guys with the key are at home now and we probably need to stay overnight. At that point we took a deep breath and as soon as we start accepting to sleep there the Indian said: “I was kidding you, there is another (hidden)way to exit”, yes this one:

That’s it? No! While looking for help a car of italians that was finishing the tour in the valley heard us so we met at the gate (on the top of the image), they were on the exterior side. After explaining them what’s happened one guy said, wait a minute, I know you! You slept in my house!
?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Yes, it’s true! That’s the story: couple of years ago I was in Donegal for a weekend with my friends Cristian, Paolo, Michele e Cinzia

In the middle of absolutely nothing we stopped at a gas station. Two cars with Northern Ireland plates reached and stopped there as well. It was a group of Italians that was living in Derry. Michele found friend from the College!

We were invited to Derry so we changed our plans and we spent the night in Derry and we were guests in their house:

Nowdays those 2 guys in the green bubble are the ones on the center of this photo, taken last weekend at the Monument Valley:

Unbeliveable, isn’t it?
P.S. Why they closed so early? Because in Utah they are one hour ahead!
